It is built around an I7 Kaby Lake Quad-Core CPU, this one with four cores and Hyper-Threading, clocked at 2.8GHz and can Turbo Boost to 3.8Ghz (more on that later). The base specs sheet says it comes with 8MB of cache but the information provided by Dell for this specific configuration say 12MB of cache! It has a TDP of 45W which is average, but the beauty about these new CPUs from Intel is that power consumption went down significantly and thermal dissipation went up accordingly so even though it’s only 45 watts you will feel like you’re running a 90-100watt chip because they run very cool.
The built-in GPU is the HD Graphics 630 which is a slight upgrade from the HD Graphics 520 that was in my old laptop. It shares the same 24 execution units, but clock speeds have been bumped up a bit. The base clock is 350MHz and it can Turbo Boost up to 1100MHz.
The Dell XPS 9330 is a fairly simple machine from the outside. It’s got a rather large lower intake that stretches from end to end under the laptop, hiding two of four fans that this configuration has (more on cooling later). On either side of these vents, you will find grills for air exhausts, and at the back, there is another one as well, so technically it’s a quad-fanned system. The top cover also features some pretty beefy heat sinks.
This laptop comes with a Full-Size keyboard, which is pretty soft and you can do your work smoothly. On the sides we have plenty of ports: 3 USB type A, 1 USB C Thunderbolt 3 port which means it doubles as a DisplayPort, full HDMI 2.0 output supporting a maximum resolution of 3840 x 2160 @ 60Hz, a 3.5mm combo audio jack, and a Noble Lock slot. The XPS 9330 uses a Killer 1535 802.11ac 2×2 Wi-Fi card with MU-MIMO support, so it’s got great wireless connectivity too.
The build quality is excellent as you would expect from Dell. It’s all metal with no flex and the hinge feels extremely solid. It also opens up a full 180 degrees so you can easily share the screen with someone sitting next to you on a plane or in bed. The bottom of the laptop has four rubber feet that keep it in place, and there are also two magnets that hold the included (and very thin) power adapter in place.
The keyboard is far from your standard laptop keyboard. The keys feel good and sturdy with just the right amount of travel and they’re still pretty quiet as well. I would put Dell ahead of Lenovo when it comes to their keyboards, but even so, this one isn’t going to be on par with Apple’s MacBook or Razer’s new Blade laptops which have the best laptop keyboards out today. Having said that I think most people will grow accustomed to it after a short period of time and I had no problem writing articles on it.

The LG Gram 17Z90P is essentially a beefed-up version of the LG Gram 15Z970, with more memory and storage. The LG’s higher price tag is justifiable considering it has everything you could want in an Ultrabook without sacrificing portability.
Hybrid aluminum-magnesium alloy provides durability equal to that of traditional aluminum laptops while weighing about four pounds less. And so the product has premium quality upon first glance already. What’s particularly interesting though, is how light it actually feels for its size compared to other high-end models out there (most notable contenders are ones like Razer Blade or Dell XPS line). Not only does this make it easier for your shoulder when carrying around campus, but much more comfortable for your lap as well.
It is also only 18mm thick which makes it incredibly slim compared to its competitors. Speaking of slimness, the LG Gram 17Z90P doesn’t have a CD/DVD drive built-in which is pretty neat considering how there are so few around these days anyway. Portable, thin, light, and sleek design definitely win over this category.
It has a full-size keyboard on the Gram laptop 17Z90P that has 1.3mm travel keys that will ease typing fatigue even after hours at a time typing away essays/reports/articles etc using it exclusively. However, there are some reports of certain keys feeling inconsistent (i.e Type R) at times with other reviewers stating that it didn’t bother them. Personally, I found the keyboard to be one of the best I’ve used on an Ultrabook so far. The backlight is also very handy in low-light situations if you’re working in a dimly lit room or outside at night.
This laptop’s screen is really something else! It’s a 17″ monitor with a resolution of 2560×1600, meaning that you can display more content on it without having to scroll than on a typical laptop screen. IPS panels are known for their 178-degree viewing angles and stellar color reproduction and accuracy, which is why this particular model has been fitted with one. Additionally, LG has included its “Advanced In-Cell Touch” technology on this screen, which means touch control is as smooth and accurate as it would be with a smartphone.
The one complaint about the monitor is its lack of brightness when compared to other models out there. However, this can easily be fixed by adjusting your gamma settings so that the display isn’t as dark overall. On a positive note though, you won’t have to worry about any potential eye strain or fatigue from being too bright.
